WHAT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW
The
student enrollment as of January 2, 2007 totaled 517
students for grades K – 5 which does not include seventeen
(17) 3 & 4-year old students in the Head Start Program.
Grades 1, 4 and 5 are the three largest classes with 90,
90 and 106 students respectively. We continue to
successfully integrate students with handicapping
conditions thereby providing all of our students with the
opportunity to work and play with a diverse population.
Our faculty and staff continue to strive for excellence in
academic achievement from each and every student. Grades
3, 4 & 5 performed well on the 2006 NYS English/Language
Arts Assessments. The fourth grade performed well on the
May NYS Science Test as did the fifth grade when they took
the two day NYS Social Studies Test in November. These are
results of which the entire school district and community
can be proud of!
Teachers and staff participated on various building and
district committees as well as many others receiving
training in scoring in-house the eight (8) grades 3 – 5
NYS assessments. Some of the most active committees were
the Shared Decision Making Team (EBT), Child Study Team,
Arts-In-Education, Sunshine, and the Faculty & Staff
Liaisons.
One of the two main resources for our students to
participate in various school-sponsored activities is the
PTSA. There were numerous holiday activities along with
other traditions/celebrations that these devoted and
energetic parents supported. The other resource is the
Student Council who continued to be very generous
financially in funding certain requests along with helping
out for the Holiday Food Basket Project, the Science Fair
and an end-of-the-year Spirit Week.
Camp Chingachgook continued to be a popular outdoor
educational experience for the fifth grade class, parent
chaperones and staff alike. Last May was our 21st
year for offering this program to our students. Office
John Coltrain and the DARE Program completed its 12th
year here culminating with a graduation ceremony in
February. Grade 4 & 5 bands, chorus, School Store, the
Joseph Henry Post Office, BOCES Mini Courses, Junior Great
Books, Computer Lab, Intramurals and the PTSA gymnastic
and dance classes were only some of the well attended
student activities this past year. |
