PROJECT HEAD
START
Our school is most fortunate to have a Head Start classroom of
seventeen 3 & 4 year olds. Project Head Start is a
comprehensive program for 3 – 5 year olds, income eligible or
handicapped children. It is federally funded to serve families in
Saratoga County. The program is designed to foster all aspects of
a child’s development……emotional, physical, and intellectual.
The philosophy revolves around the belief that parents are the focal
point of a young child’s life and much learning takes place from them.
To be effective, preschool education must take advantage of the strong
parent- child bond. The five major components of this program are
education, health, nutrition, social services and parent involvement.
Research results of children who participated in a preschool experience
such as Head Start demonstrate higher scores on achievement tests in
math and reading, fewer delinquent tendencies, more likely to finish
high school/acquire jobs or go to college, less likely to end up on
public assistance, improved health and nutrition, stronger commitment to
school and form better relationships with other children and adults.
If you have a child of preschool age and would like more information
and/or a registration packet, please call 882-1221, ext. 42458.
