PERSONAL DICTIONARY REQUIREMENTS Label
each of the 26 pages in your binder with a letter of the alphabet.
Record words collected from your novel or in-class readings, Caught Ya
sentences, current events articles, etymology lessons, prefix lists, etc, under
the appropriate letter in your personal dictionary.
Record the source (where you first spied the word—you can include a
copy of that text with the word highlighted), the part of speech used in the
context, the definition, and one of
the following tasks: an original
sentence using the word, an illustration of the word’s meaning, a synonym or
antonym. Extra credit
will be awarded if you complete one than one of the tasks listed. You can
earn extra credit also by including the history of the word (etymology) When a
page is full for a specific letter, add another loose-leaf to your binder!
Words do not have to be listed alphabetically under letter headings. Seeking
an “A” (90%-100%)?—50 words must be recorded in your personal dictionary
each quarter. Extra credit will be awarded if you do more
than one of the tasks. Seeking
a “B” (80%-89%)?—35 words must be recorded in the above format in your
personal dictionary. Okay
with a “C” (70%-79%)?—20 words must be recorded in the above format in
your personal dictionary. Around the 5 week mark each quarter (October 6th for the first quarter), everyone must have at least 10 new words in their dictionary or will be required to come during learning lab or after school one day each week for the last 5 weeks of the quarter to keep current with the long-term assignment. The dictionaries will be collected and must have the minimum of 20 words on 11/3-- 4th Period and 5th Period 11/4--1st Period and 2nd Period 11/5--3rd period |
