The Secondary Advisory Board

The Mission of the Galway Middle/High School

Secondary Advisory Board

The Secondary Advisory Board (SAB) will seek to support and contribute to the mission of the Galway School with regard to areas that impact student achievement. This board will address issues that suggest improvements in student achievements and will recommend and implement initiatives/programs and/or changes when deemed appropriate.

Defining the Issues That Are Subject to Shared Decision Making

In determining whether an issue is appropriate for shared decision-making, the SAB should consider the outcome and be able to answer affirmatively to all of these questions:

1. Will the decision have a positive impact on student performance, (specifically the

intellectual, academic, creative, social, vocational, emotional, and physical growth

of the students)?

2. Will the SAB have the resources available to implement the decision?

3. Will any or all members of the SAB have the authority to implement the decision?

4. Is the decision limited to the SAB building?

To provide some further guidelines, the SAB is aware that it does not have the authority, resources, jurisdiction or the responsibility to make decisions concerning issues governed by negotiated contracts of federal, state and local laws, regulations, codes or judicial rulings, or Board of Education policy.

Means and Standards to Evaluate Student Performance

The purpose of the SAB is to improve the performance of all students in the school. Student performance encompasses all areas affecting a student’s growth and development. As the SAB develops and implements plans, appropriate means and standards to measure student performance will be utililized. If the SAB is not able to find performance measurement tools applicable to a particular plan of action appropriate means will be developed by the SAB, such as surveys, self-assessment materials, interviews, etc..

The School Mission

The staff of Galway Middle/High School believes that all students can succeed in learning. Our school’s purpose is to educate all students to their highest level of academic performance while fostering positive growth in social/emotional behavior and attitudes. We accept the responsibility to provide the proper atmosphere and opportunity so that each student can attain his or her maximum potential.
