Let's Get Some Bright Ideas Going

#2 Scavenger Hunt

It is due: November 24th

In this project you will go on a scavenger hunt for math things!!!! The purpose of this project is for you to explore your environment and see how Math is EVERYWHERE! You will work in a group (of your choice 2-3 people). You will receive a group grade from me and an individual grade from your partners, these grades will be averaged. Make sure you all are doing equal work!

A list of math things to find is available from Mrs Herron. You and your partners may divide the list any way you like, but in the end you all are responsible for finding all the things!! The more you find the better your grade and the more effort and creativity you put into presenting your findings the better grade you will receive.

The project is due Wednesday November 24, 2002. No late projects accepted since Thanksgiving break begins!

You will have a project checkpoint on Friday November 19th  . You will have minimal time in class to work on this project, (Tues Nov 16th, Fri Nov 19th) but your group can sign up for the late bus and work in my room any night, or can work during learning labs together!

How can I present my scavenger hunt?

Ø Poster board: make a collage or just paste things to the poster board. Be creative with lots of color!

Ø Book: Make a book with an object on each page! Make sure to add color!

Ø Mini-museum: show the objects in display like a museum would have

Ø Videotape: If you have a camcorder at home you can videotape each of the objects you find as one of the group members narrates!

Ø Power Point: If you know how to do a Power Point presentation (or make a website) you can take pictures on a digital camera and use them in the power point program

Ø Any other idea: if you have another idea, let me know first!

What medium do the objects need to be in?

You can cut pictures form a magazine, newspaper, etc. You can find them on the internet, take digital pictures or regular pictures (Polaroid work well) and include them in your project. You can include real 3-D objects and tape then or glue them into your project. You can photocopy any thing that you can not cut!

You CAN NOT draw your own pictures or use textbooks. The objects are suppose to be found in the real world surrounding you!

What must I include besides the object?

You also need to include a short paragraph (2-3 sentences) on what you found, what it is and how we use it in real life (how it helps us, or what careers use it may be discussed also). You must label each object with the name from the list!! Either put (glue/tape/etc.) the typed paragraph under the object or hand write it very neatly!!!!!

How you will be graded: This project will count as a TEST grade. So, put a lot of effort into it!!!! I will grade you using a Rubric scoring chart that is attached.
