Joli Blaha   (May 2006)
After graduating from SUNY Potsdam (1991) with a dual degree in Sociology/Political Science, I, like many others, did NOT use my degree to become a lawyer like I originally intended.  Instead, I decided to take the long route in deciding my career...I got a position in an advertising agency with Young & Rubicam (NYC/Rochester) working for Xerox and Mobil Chemical Company in Meetings & Events/Public Relations/Advertising.  I traveled the country living out of a suitcase for 4 years writing articles, attending trade shows, and being an advertising account manager.
I took another position and moved from Rochester, NY to Ohio to work for a competitor for another 4 years as a marketing director and taught marketing classes for a local college.  I caught the "bug" for working with college students and decided to go back to school for my master's degree in College Administration.
After attending Canisius College (2002) in Buffalo, NY, I was hired by Rochester Institute of Technology as an instructor for the Freshman Seminar Classes and eventually became the Assistant Director of Student Conduct & Mediation Services (remember that wish for law...I learned higher education law...).  Eventually, I took a position in Academic Affairs starting an Internal Transfer Office and still teach Freshman Seminar adjunct.
Personally, I'm divorced with no children but have plenty of college students to keep me busy!  I'm renovating a 1920's colonial in the city of Rochester and have an awesome cocker spaniel named Henry.
Would love to hear from other GHS alums!   jrbvsa@rit.edu

After graduating from Galway High in 1986, I attended Cornell University and studied Civil Engineering.  In 1990, after graduation, moved to Boston to start a construction management job with Turner Construction, one of the largest general contractors in the US. Worked in Boston for five years before moving to Colombo, Sri Lanka to build a world trade center high rise there.  Was recruited from there to LA, where I built Jurassic Park, The Ride, for Universal Studios before going back to school at UCLA for my MBA in finance.  lived abroad for one semester in the Philippines before moving back to LA to finish my degree and start my own company (soon after my MBA was completed).  Recently sold the company to a public company and am contracting for the company that bought mine.  Life is good in LA, and if you ever want to say hi or visit, please contact me at

After high school, did 3 years in the USMC.  Great experience.  Got married and divorced.  Back in good old West Galway.  I live at the old Jessop homestead on Sanders Rd. with my lovely wife Su Luke (Elementary Art teacher in Schuylerville), my wonderful young boys Ahryah (10) and Esa (9), and my dearly loved father, Adrian.  The old house is coming down, since we put up a new house in August 2001.  Many fantastic memories, a lot of history.  Time marches on...I am and have been a truck driver for many years.  I work for the Empire Beef Company of Rochester, NY.  As always, my love for food prevails!  I enjoy driving and intermingling with customers and have met many great people in my travels.  Customer service is my thing.  Life has been good, and continues to be so.  I have dealt with my ups and downs well.  I hope to attend any future class and/or alumni reunions.  God bless Galway, and America! Hey There!   Well let me begin by saying  "GHS has a website?"  "Cool!"  After I graduated I went into the army for 3 yrs. and was in Germany as a medic. In '89 I got out and stayed in the Army reserves and went to college. I graduated with an associates degree and was going to transfer to Northwestern to finish, but was offered a job selling medical products for my uncle's company in Georgia.  Presently I'm living in Georgia  with my wife of 4 yrs. Carolyn Herd, (yes my next door neighbor in Galway)_on a mini farm she's an accountant in Atlanta and I'm the national sales manager for Sterimed, the co. I've been with.  In June '04,  I'm getting activated back to active duty...I'll be in South Carolina....Ft. Jackson for a year.  I'm going to be in charge of drill sergeants training basic training soldiers.  I was a drill sergeant for 8 yrs.
