We Support Our Black and Brown Students

We Support Our Black and Brown Students
Posted on 06/08/2020
Dear Community Members,
Over the weekend, we received a heartfelt message on Facebook from a Galway alumnus asking us to post a message of support for black students. We would like him, and our entire community, to know that he matters. Black and brown lives matter. Our black and brown students and their families matter a great deal to us.

Galway Central School District accepts the responsibility to provide the proper atmosphere and opportunity so that each student can attain his or her maximum potential. That is part of our mission, vision, values, and goals.

We accept that we are human and imperfect, but we also know that our community is made of individuals with good hearts who go above and beyond for each other. We denounce racism in our schools and will continue to foster an atmosphere where black and brown students feel safe and comfortable to be themselves and achieve their maximum potential. At the same time, we will continue to practice being Sweethearts and Heroes to each other.

We encourage and welcome dialogue in order to create better experiences for our black and brown students and families. One way we can gain different perspectives is through reading, research, and talking with each other.

Sincerely,
The Galway Administrative Team
