Congratulations to the following students from Galway Central School District who placed in the Regional SkillsUSA competition:
•  Junior Alexander Gotzen-Berg earned first place in Auto Vehicle Maintenance Basic
•  Senior Zane St. Louis earned first place in Restaurant Service
•  Senior Tyler Sowle earned second place in Photography

Alexander, Zane, and Tyler joined 97 of their fellow Career and Technical Education students from WSWHE BOCES to compete in the 2023 SkillsUSA Area 3 competition alongside students from Capital Region BOCES, Champlain Valley Educational Services, and Questar III.

The competitions were held at Schenectady County Community College, Capital Region BOCES, and the International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 158).

SkillsUSA competitions measure students’ skills in their chosen field of study including criminal justice, cosmetology, HVAC, advertising design, food preparation, carpentry, welding, auto repair, first aid/CPR, and much more. Students must complete an assignment against each other and the clock and have their efforts judged by leaders in business and industry.

Alexander, Zane, and Tyler will now advance to the NYS Competition in Syracuse from April 26-28, 2023.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. It is a national nonprofit organization devoted to rewarding students for excellence, for involving industry in directly evaluating student performance, and to keeping career training relevant to employers’ needs.
