Congratulations (again) to 6th grader, Peregrine Perkins, for winning the Spelling Bee yesterday!  Peregrine won after 33 rounds, barely beating out his brother, Eben. Peregrine will go on to compete at Proctors Theater in February against spellers from all over the Capital Region. Peregrine and Eben will both compete against our local BOCES schools in May. Well done Peregrine and Eben!

Thank you to the 7th and 8th graders, as well as Ms. Booth, Mr. Gregg and Mr. Barrow, for the beautiful concert last night!

Thank you to Student Senate and the advisers of the classes that facilitated the food drive. Thank you to those who brought in non-perishable items. Once again, the school donated approximately 2,000 items towards the Holiday Christmas Basket Project. Thank you to the basketball players, the wrestlers, Joe Herbst and Ryan Lovelass who came and helped loaded the buses. Thank you to Mrs. DeLuca, Galway grad Aidan O’Beirne, Nate Baxter, Walter Ellsworth, Hannah Hoffman, and Ruth Reichard who helped unload and/or sort, plus count the cans at the church. It's a community effort and our students once again did Eagle Nation proud. 

 

Congratulations to the girls’ JV basketball team who beat North Warren last night with a score of 46 to 23! Grace O’Brien had 19 points, Hannah French had 11 points, and Jill Neahr had 10 points. Great job Eagles! 

 

Congratulations to the following varsity volleyball players, Julia Reedy, Katy Kurtzner, and Hannah Hofmann for being selected to the New York State All State teams! Julia Reedy is on the First Team All-State, Katy Kurtzner is on the Second Team All-State and Hannah Hofmann is on the Third Team All-State! Great job Eagles!

Today is the start of National Computer Science Education Week! Computer Science is the study of computers. Not just the computers we see and use all the time either! There are computers in a lot of things: cars, lights, and heating/cooling systems. Even some roads, shoes, and greenhouses use computers.  This year, Galway is promoting Computer Science and Coding in several different ways. One way is by sharing computer science fun facts here on GTV. 


  • The computing industry boasts one of the highest starting salaries for new college graduates.


  • There are more than 5000 new computer viruses are released every month


Galway is also hosting an Hour of Code event in the HS library tonight from 6-7:30. This event is open to all of the Galway School Community. Come play and learn more about coding and computer science by playing with robots, flying drones, exploring faraway places, and playing coding games! The robotics team is selling pizza & baked goods as well as talking about their robots. Come join the fun!


The Student Senate food drive ends tomorrow! If you want your teacher to Kiss the Pig, be sure to bring in as much food as possible tomorrow! Congratulations to the Galway students who were part of the Galway Players production of “Beauty and the Beast” this past weekend! Kim Martin was amazing in the starring role of Belle! It was a wonderful play and you are all incredibly talented!
