This afternoon, at the Galway Public Library, you can learn more about the Hubble telescope with Bill Hathaway from 3:00 – 5:00.  Bill was a graduate of Galway Central Schools and went on to work at NASA. Bill has worked on the International Ultraviolet Explorer, and, since its inception, on the Hubble Space Telescope. He will have a meet and greet session, and a presentation at 3:30. Hope to see you there!

Your attendance will help support the Conor Bradshaw Memorial Scholarship, and also the freshman class! We want this year to be even more successful than last year, but we can only do it with your help. Spread the word, Eagle Nation!

There's still time to donate your gently used/new shoes to the Class of 2021 Shoe Drive! They will be collecting until this Friday; all sizes and styles are accepted. Seniors will be released from classes at 1:50 today to go to the cafeteria. They will get their caps and gowns, walk through the elementary and enjoy some refreshments after! You’re almost there Class of 2019!

Today’s fact from GSA: The National Transgender Discrimination Survey, showed that 26% of trans people lost the job due to bias, 50% were harassed on the job, 20% were evicted or denied housing, and 78% of trans students were harassed or assaulted in their lifetime.

The Athletic Wall of Fame & Awards Ceremony will be held in the Auditorium tomorrow evening at 6:30pm.  At this event they will recognize this year's inductees into the Wall of Fame, the Athletes of the Year and Coach of the Year, as well as some of the Athletic Milestones of the 2018-2019 seasons.  Please come to this event to celebrate all the wonderful accomplishments of Galway Athletics, and recognize this year's deserving award recipients. Friday afternoon Rachel Wnuk and Holden Decker competed in the State Qualifiers at Shen. Rachel came in 4th with 4’10" for the high jump and 5th in hurdles with a time of 16.94. Holden earned a PR of 4:36 in the mile. Great job!

The Art Department would like to congratulate Ari Persaud for winning the Orville Curtis and Galway Lion's Club Scholarship for Fine Arts. Ari will be attending a fully paid art course of her choice over the summer to expand her portfolio, compliments of the Galway Lions Club.

Congratulations to Holden Decker who came in 3rd in the State meet yesterday at the State qualifier meet yesterday at Shen. He had a time of 2 minutes in the 800. Awesome race Holden! Good luck to Rachel Wnuk and Holden who are both competing at the State qualifying meet today! Go Eagles!

Eric Zelezniak led the Galway modified baseball to a 14-1 victory yesterday over Canajoharie with a no-hitter.  Throughout the game Eric allowed 1 unearned run, no hits and struck out 15 batters. Eli Tompkins went 2 for 2 with a triple, Brian Brink went 2 for 2, The boys play their last game TODAY at 4:30 on the bus garage field.  Good luck Eagles!

The deadline is today at 2:30.


All varsity track uniforms must be turned in by Monday!  Uniforms must be cleaned, inside a clean bag, with your name on a sheet of paper inside the bag. Turn in your full uniform to Mr. Mal or Miss Bellon.The varsity track and field clean up and awards is next Thursday the 6th.

Congratulations to the Galway girls’ varsity and boys’ varsity track teams who competed in group 5 Sectionals on Tuesday. The girls’ team finished 5th and the boys captured 3rd place.

The results for the girls’ team are as follows:

Rachel Wnuk won the 100 hurdles and got 2nd in high jump and triple jump.

Sarah Ernst scored in the 100 and 200.

Aila Bishop came in 3rd in shot put.

Siela Zembsch scored in the 400 hurdles and Emma Jordan scored in the 3000.

Grant, Zembsch, Zembsch and LeCeraris scored in the 4x800.

The boys’ results were:

Holden Decker won the 800 and 1600.

The 4x100 relay of Rumsey, Smith, Mothon and Stewart came in 2nd.

Peter Stewart came in 3rd in shot and discus.

Charlie Clarke came in 3rd in high jump.

The 4x400 relay of Smith, Ingle, Decker and O'Connell came in 3rd.

Matt Sowle scored in discus and Josh Rumsey scored in the 100m. Great job Eagles!

Rachel Wnuk is going to the State Qualifiers in the triple jump, high jump, 100 hurdles and Pentathlon. Holden Decker is headed to the State Qualifiers in the 800 and 1600. If they win there, then they will go to States. Good luck Rachel and Holden!

Congratulations to the modified boys’ baseball team who improved to 4 wins and 3 losses with a 14-3 win over Middleburgh yesterday.  Carson Eagan was the winning pitcher for the Eagles. He allowed four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out four and walking zero. There were 11 hits in the game.  Eli Tompkins and Connor Johnson each had 3 hits. Great plays were made by all, especially Tyler Sowle and Noah Pecor. The boys return to the diamond today at Bishop Gibbons. Their last two home games are next week. Good luck Eagles!

Congratulations to the Galway girls’ varsity and boys’ varsity track teams! Both boys and girls were undefeated in the Mohawk Division (small schools) of the WAC League. The boys finished their dual meet season with a record of 5 and 4 and the girls were 9 and 1. The
boys finished 5
th at the WAC Championships and the girls 3rd.  Yesterday both teams competed in group 5 Sectionals. We will announce the results tomorrow.

The modified track team concluded their season with personal records and good place finishes. Kerringtyn Davis took second in the high jump and had a PR. She also placed second in the 100 meters. Emma Mariani placed 1st in the discus and had a PR. Chris Maher and Stephanie Martin placed second in the triple jump. Emma Mitchell placed first in the 3000! The girls 4 x 200 relay team of Molly Orvasky, Abby Gullet, Kerringtyn Davis and Stephanie Martin placed 3rd. Great season, team!

 

Congratulations to the boys’ varsity baseball team who won the senior game on Saturday against Mayfield. Seniors Mike Sowle, Christian Hines and Erik Malanoski combined for 8 of the Eagles’ team record 23 hits. Henry Flint added an outstanding day on the mound striking out 10 in 5 innings and holding Mayfield scoreless. Well done Eagles!

Even if you don’t like cars, the event will be extremely enjoyable with fun for all! Please attend yourself and spread the word to other communities! Your attendance will help support the Conor Bradshaw Memorial Scholarship, and also the freshman class! 6:15. From 6:45- 7:15 Prom goers will have pictures taken at the Carousel in Congress Park. Prom is at the Canfield Casino from 7- 11:30. At 11:30 the buses leave Prom, one returning to school, the other heading to the amazing After Prom which lasts from midnight to 3am and will be filled with prizes, games and FUN!

Last night at Fonda in the WAC League Championship Meet the boys came in 5th place.

Holden Decker is the league champion in the 800 and 1600.

Ingle scored in 400 hurdles.

Clarke score in high jump.

Heigel scored in pentathlon.

Rumsey scored in the 100 meters.

Stewart scored in both the shot and discus.

Clarke, O’Connel, Decker and Holbrook scored in the 4x400 relay,

and Clarke, Holbrook, Hilton and Jordan scored in the 4x800 relay.


The girls’ varsity team finished third in the League Championship.

Sarah Ernst is the 100m league champion, and she was 3rd in pole vault and 4th in the 200.

Aila Bishop is the league champion in shot put and came in 4th in discus.

Rachel Wnuk is the league champion in high jump and she also came in 2nd in both triple jump and the 100m hurdles.

Welcome to Spirit Week Eagle Nation! Tomorrow is Twin Day, Wednesday is Well Dressed Day, Thursday is College Gear, and Friday is Class Color day and High School Field Day! In case you were wondering, the Seniors’ color is blue, Juniors are red, Sophomores are yellow, and Freshmen are green! In the junior high, 8th graders are blue and 7th graders are yellow!

 

Congratulations to the modified boys’ baseball who took home a 6-2 victory over Schoharie on Saturday. Eric Zelezniak was the winning pitcher for the Eagles. He lasted six innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out 16 and walking one.  Zach Kenyon threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Kenyon recorded the last three outs to earn the save. Eric led the team with three hits in three at bats. Jeremiah Paro had one hit and 2 RBIs. Great job Eagles!

 

The boys’ varsity baseball team is hosting their Senior Game today at home versus Mayfield at 4:30pm at the Bus Garage Field. Be sure to head over to the field and cheer them on!

The modified track team did well in their met on Wednesday night in Schoharie against Duanesburg, Middleburgh and Schoharie. Emma Mariani took first in the discus. Chris Maher was first in the 400. Abby Gullett had a PR for the 55 meter hurdles and placed third. Emma Mitchell won the 800 and got a PR. Their next meet is at home on Monday. Come out and cheer them on!


The JV and varsity boys baseball teams play a doubleheader today against Amsterdam at historic Shuttleworth Park starting at 4:30pm. The modified softball and baseball teams play at home today. Go Eagles!

Today we have the special Sweethearts and Heroes Assembly. The 7th and 8th graders will have their assembly from 10 to 11:30, followed by lunch for all 7th and 8th graders. BOCES students will still have A lunch. All HS students will go to 6th period after their 5th period class. Then all HS students, wil have C lunch, followed by their assembly from 12:55 to 2:20. The Business Education Department would like to congratulate Justin Kozlowski for being recognized as the 2018-2019 Outstanding Business Education student. This honor was awarded to Justin, not only for academic achievement, but also for his outstanding citizenship and positive attitude. Justin, his parents and Mrs. Sitts will attend the awards dinner tonight at the Century House where Justin and other local outstanding business students will be recognized. This event is sponsored by the Business and Marketing Educators’ Association of the Capital District. Congratulations to Justin! You make Eagle Nation proud!


Congratulations to Julia Holbrook, who earned 1st place in Extemporaneous Speaking at the SkillsUSA competition over break at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Julia spoke about “How do you know if you are career ready?” after having just 5 minutes to prepare her 3 to 5 minute speech. She is going to compete in the national SkillsUSA event, in June. They are flying her and her Criminal Justice teacher, David Foldi to Lousiville, Kentucky and will fly her back on June 29th, in time for graduation! Well done Julia, and good luck in June!


Congratulations to the boys’ varsity baseball team who defeated Mekeel 7 to 3 yesterday. Erik Malanoski had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s and 4 Galway pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts. The boys play at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown today at 11am against Duanesburg in the Baseball Hall of Fame Classic. Go Eagles!


Congratulations to the JV baseball team on beating Hadley-Luzerne 8-4 yesterday. Matt Smith and Rainn McMillan teamed up to pitch a strong game. Sam Neahr led the team with 3 RBI’s and both Anthony Powers and Myles Pleasants chipped in with 2. Great job Eagles!


Congrats to the modified team for their efforts against McKeel and Fonda at  yesterday’s track meet. A.J. Finkenbinder got a PR for the shotput and the discus. Emma Mariani and Noah Montague both had a PR for the discus. In running action, Kerringtyn Davis won the 100 meter dash. Chris Maher got a PR in the 1500 with a time of 5:10 and is only 15 seconds away from breaking a modified record set 12 years ago. Chris also had a PR for the long jump and placed in top 3. Great job Eagles!

Congratulations the track team who competed at the Hudson Falls Invy over break. Rachel Wnuk came in 2nd in the pentathalon and Holden Decker finished in 4th in the mile and 800. Also over break, Kim Martin broke the Galway javelin record by 20' at the Ballston Spa Throwers' Invy. Due to a scoring error it was discovered that the Galway girls’ varsity track team defeated Fonda for the first time in 3 decades, so the team is now undefeated in the league with a dual meet record of 6-0. Great job Eagles! The Galway boys’ varsity track team has a record of 4 and 2. Come out to the home meet today after school and watch the boys and girls compete and win!

Congratulations to the Galway seniors who won the Stock Market Challenge yesterday! The group won a trophy, cash, and a trip to NYC to visit the NYS Stock Exchange! Great job Eagles! You make Eagle Nation proud!


Congrats to the modified cross country team! They competed at home yesterday against Mayfield-Northville ans Berne Knox Westerlo. Abby Gullett and Steven Monte took first in the 55 meter hurdle races. Emma Mariani took first in the disc and got a PR for the season. Chris Maher and Emma Mitchell took first in the 1500 meter races. Steph Martin and Colin Anderson took first in the 400 meter races. The boys 4x100 meter team made up of Casey Clark, Eben Perkins, Colin Anderson and Chris Maher won the relay. Great job team!!


Today is the last day of Earth Week, Eagle Nation! It’s Climate Change Awareness Day so that’s why everybody is wearing red. Here’s today’s Earth fact: The US is the second largest contributor to CO2 in our atmosphere, though we only account for 4.4% of the population. If everyone in the world lived the way the US does, it would take four earths to provide enough resources for everyone. Do what you can to make our earth a better place.
