Childcare Plans for Essential Healthcare Workers and First Responders 

Schools are an important part of the community and are charged with the care and instruction of a community’s youngest members. Therefore, during a public health emergency, schools and districts are integral parts of a state’s emergency response plan.

Pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Order on March 16, 2020, school districts in NYS are required to establish and submit plans for the care of children of essential health care workers and first responders and to address other identified student needs. 

Essential health care workers may include licensed health professionals such as physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, LPNs and nurse assistants or laboratory personnel. First responders may include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, and firefighters.

In order to know our community’s needs, we are asking for input from parents who work in health care and emergency services. This survey will assist us in determining the needs that exist within our community, so that we and our community childcare partners can be as responsive as possible in assisting our families.

Please respond to the survey as soon as you are able, but before the end of the day on Monday, March 23, 2020.  The survey only applies to the following people who reside in the school district:

1. Licensed Health Professionals:

Registered Nurse

Licensed Practical Nurse

Certified Nurse Assistant

Laboratory Personnel

2. First Responders (employed or volunteer):

Paramedic

Emergency Medical Technician

Police Officer

Firefighter

Thank you in advance for your help gathering this information. Once we have collected this information, we will then determine as quickly as possible how to best provide this service and will communicate with you accordingly.

Galway CSD is building upon partnerships with existing community-based organizations (CBOs) that are already licensed through the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). We are also working collaboratively with other districts on our BOCES and with their county partners to provide child care access.
