Update From Student Senate

Hello everyone,
Yesterday we were all informed that our school would be closed for an extended period of time and that classes would be transferred to online. As leaders in our school community and leaders in our own lives, I encourage you to take charge of your high school experience whether you are a freshman or a senior or anywhere in between. In these times of unknown territory, I wanted to share these two quotes with you all:

"Peace doesn't deny difficulty, but it has an inner calm and quietness even while enduring the difficulty." ~ Glenn C. Stewart

"You just cannot just stop living because of this." ~ Florence Bagdan

I encourage you to each step out of your comfort zones and take initiative during these next few weeks. Keep on top of your school work, create study groups, and reach out to those that may be struggling. In the past I have made Quizlets for classes and topics I have struggled with covering subjects such as Pre-Calculus, U.S. History, Government, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology (most of which, if not all, are open to the public for use by searching the name Kaylee_Bagdan). As intelligent students in Galway, please find ways to help others, especially academically, as we all learn to transfer to online learning.

On Thursday, during our meeting, we made a back up plan for our March Fundraiser, which was a school wide Kahoot game based on school spirit and school involvement. At this time, I am figuring out the logistics and will contact you all once it is figured out completely and approved by school administrators.

The COVID-19 outbreak is unknown territory for our generation and it is completely normal to feel scared, nervous, or even angry. You are allowed to feel these emotions and they are completely valid. I encourage you to find a sense of calm during this time and to continue to be yourself. One way is through staying informed and listening to reliable sources, such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as new information is released. Another is through communicating by texting, calling, or reaching out to classmates to still stay social while following social distancing protocol. As you all know, I am here for you if you need anything during this time, so feel free to email, text, or call me at anytime if you have any questions or just need to talk.

Thank you all for being so understanding during this time. Feel free to forward this email to others if they have any concerns.

Sincerely, Kaylee Bagdan, President of Student Senate
