In today’s modern world, the most popular method of documenting is photography. This instant freezing of a moment brings a visual awareness to the current social topics of today. 

After studying the work of Feminist Artist Judy Chicago, local Galway Photographer Jason Cromie visited the students to discuss technique and legal limitations. Mr. Cromie showed a portfolio of his personal work and shared his knowledge of posing, lighting, proper contract language, and public domain usage. He provided specific examples that demonstrated each area of photography that he discussed.

Students were impressed with Mr. Cromie's work and used what he taught them during their Studio Art field trip to Saratoga. While walking around the city, the class modeled for each other following Mr. Cromie's tips and captured images in areas that were protected under the public domain law. Subject matters included bullying, protecting nature, and  the importance of preserving the past.

The class then imported their raw images into Adobe Photoshop to enhance what they wanted to focus on. Overall, the project gave students the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective while gaining the technical skills needed in basic photography.
