- In 1912, Boston Braves MLB franchise owner James Gaffney bought the Allston Golf Club on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, with a plan to construct a ballpark there; ground breaking for Braves Field started on March 20, 1915.
- In 1924, the Boston Bruins beat fellow expansion team Montreal Maroons, 2-1 at Boston Arena; the first NHL game to be played in the United States.
- In 1940, four sets of brothers played in one NHL game as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the NY Rangers 4-1: Lynn & Muzz Patrick and Neil & Mac Colville (Rangers); Max & Doug Bentley and Bob & Bill Carse (Chicago).
- In 1954, NY Yankees and Baltimore Orioles completed the largest trade in MLB history as 17 players, including Don Larsen, Gene Woodling, and Bob Turley, changed teams; the first phase of the transaction began on November 18 and concluded today after the MLB draft.
- In 1964, after just 3 seasons in MLB, the Houston Colt .45s changed the name of the team to the Astros; owners say the move signals a step into the future for the franchise and the city of Houston.
