HIGHLIGHTS

Softball Highlights

Congratulations to the Varsity Softball team on an incredible weekend. On Friday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Mayfield to open league play.  The Eagles jumped on the Panthers quickly as they pushed across six runs in the top of the first, and then put it away for good in the third as they scored 8 more to cruise to a 16-0 victory and move to 1-0 in the league.  Emma Menge picked up the win in the circle.  Kiera Allen blasted a two-run home run and added a single with 3 RBIs.  Courtney Smith, Samantha Becker, and Sadie Stead each had two hits to pace the Eagles.

On Saturday, the Eagles traveled to the Ballston Spa Grand Slam event, where they faced undefeated and State-ranked power Wellsville from Section 5 and undefeated power South Glens Falls.  The Eagles faced Wellsville first and jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Wellsville answered right back to tie it at 2-2.  The Eagles came right back in the bottom of the third, scoring three to take a 5-2 lead, but Wellsville had an answer as they scored 4 in the top of the 4th to take a 6-5 lead.  The Eagles pulled even, stealing a run in the bottom of the 5th to tie it at 6-6. Kiera Allen singled, stole second, then stole third and scored on an overthrow.  The game stayed that way as both teams battled into extra innings.  The Eagles finally broke through in the bottom of the 9th.  With two outs, Courtney Smith on second and Keira Allen on first, Samantha Becker hit a short fly ball to centerfield that fell out of the centerfielder's glove, trying to make a racing catch, which allowed Courtney Smith to race home for the walk-off win for the Eagles.  Avery Menge started and went 3 2/3 innings, striking out 7.  Emma Menge came in in relief and went 5 1/3 innings, picking up the win while striking out 8. Kiera Allen had two hits, two RBIs, and three runs scored.  Courtney Smith picked up two walks and two runs for the Eagles.

After the marathon game with Wellsville, the Eagles got a 10-minute break before they had to turn around and play a fresh, fully rested, undefeated South Glens Falls team.  The Eagles fell behind again as they trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third, but the Eagles battled back as they pushed two across in the third on a two-run triple by Kiera Allen.  The Eagles struck again in the bottom of the fourth as they pushed across 3 to take a 5-3 lead.  In the sixth, the Eagles tacked on 3 more runs, including an RBI triple from Samantha Becker.  The Eagles finished it off in the seventh to preserve the 8-5 victory.  Avey Menge started and picked up the win in the circle, going 4 innings, and striking out 6.  Emma Menge picked up the save as she pitched the final 3 innings.  Kiera Allen had a triple with 3 RBIs, and Courtney Smith also had a triple with 1 RBI and 1 Walk.  Emma Menge added 2 singles and 2 RBIs.  Samantha Becker had a triple, a single with 1 RBI, and a stolen base. Lily Bain added 2 Singles for the Eagles.  The Eagles move to 5-2 on the season. They travel to Duanesburg today at 4:30
  • The JV Softball team also traveled to the Ballston Spa Grand Slam Event.  The Eagles opened with Bethlehem. Brooklyn Taylor had two singles and scored for the Eagles.  Gracie Gregory added a triple and went the distance in the circle, striking out 11.  In the second game, the Eagles took on a strong South Glens Falls.  The Eagles fell to the Bulldogs, 0-12.  Gracie Gregory had a single and a double for the Eagles.  They are back in action today, as they host Cobleskill-Richmondville.
The Modified Softball team opened up their season on Friday with a head-to-head battle against the Northville Falcons, which ended in a 16-16 tie.  Emma DiPasquale led the team with 2 hits and 5 RBIs, including a 3-run Home Run in the 2nd inning.
