Girls Soccer Highlights
The Galway Girls Varsity Soccer team traveled to Mayfield last night for a Class C showdown.
Galway dominated the first half, maintaining possession and creating several opportunities. Mayfield held on to keep it scoreless going into halftime. 15 minutes into the second half, a loose ball was played across Galway’s box, and amid the chaos, it came off the foot of a Galway player trying to clear it. This would become the lone goal of the game. Norah Schaperjahn had the defensive assignment of Mayfield’s Ava Vannostrand. Vannostrand is a prolific scorer averaging 3 goals per game. Norah and the field held her to 0. It was a tremendous effort.
Galway’s keeper, Lily Bain, held down the fort, turning away several dangerous free kicks and tallying 11 more saves in her incredible rookie season. The girls will look to bounce back as they take on Schenectady in a non-league matchup on Wednesday. With the loss, the girls move to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in league.
