Boys Soccer Highlights
The modified boys’ soccer team took a scenic road trip to Cherry Valley last night for a non-league match-up. The weather was beautiful, and the soccer was stellar. The team started with dominant possession and missed three scoring opportunities early; then Cherry Valley scored two quick transition goals, and the team fell behind 0-2 midway through the first. The team responded well, and Cj Anderson scored a goal and assisted Phil Denisio to tie the game 2-2. Then, just before halftime, Gavin Coulter scored a goal assisted by Jaxon Palmateer, and Richard Duncan scored on a long strike to take the lead 4-2 at halftime. In the third quarter, possession was back and forth, with great opportunities and saves on both sides of the field. Cherry Valley scored just before the end of the third quarter to cut the deficit to one. The fourth quarter was filled with excitement as the teams battled at both ends of the field. Callan Stead and Brantly Ray each denied Cherry Valley scoring opportunities. With just under 4 minutes in the game, Cherry Valley scored a long goal to tie the game, and then with just under a minute left, Cherry Valley took another long shot from the far right side of the field that found its way to the back of the net, resulting in a 4-5 loss for the team. The team travels to Fonda on Tuesday for their next contest with a 7-2-1 record.
