Each year the New York State Department of Transportation publishes an operator profile list for all transportation providers in the State of New York. This includes schools and private carriers.
The DOT Operator profile details the number of inspections performed by DOT on each carrier's fleet, the number of vehicles placed out of service and the percentage out of service between April 1st of the previous year and March 31st of the current year.  These results determine each carriers status in DOT's  Performance Based Bus Inspection Program.  There are three categories Transportation Operators can fall into:
  • Preferred -  The operator must have out of service rate of < or = 10%
  • Acceptable - The operator's out of service rate falls between > 10% and < 25%
  • Unacceptable - The operator's out of service rate is 25% or greater
"DOT just published the Operator Profiles for this past year," said Galway Supervisor of Transportation and Grounds Bill Clark Jr. "I am very pleased to share with you all that Galway CSD's out of service rate was 1.6% making our pass rate 98.4%!  To put these numbers in perspective, last year DOT performed 62 inspections on our buses and found an issue with one. Keep in mind, a bus can fail inspection for something as simple as a light bulb being out or a check engine light coming on."
This year marks the 7th consecutive year Galway Central School has been a NYS DOT Preferred operator!
"I would like to publicly say Thank You! to our two Mechanics, Scott Holbrook and Denis Ryder," said Mr. Clark. "They continue to do an outstanding job keeping our fleet safe while still filling in as drivers and helping out wherever and whenever they are needed. If you happen to see them please let them know how much their efforts are appreciated."
