Galway Central School District has an immediate opening for a Head Automotive Repairer in the Transportation Department. This position is 40-hours per week with an excellent benefits package and state retirement.
This is a supervisory position which involves responsibility for the planning, organizing and supervising of vehicle and equipment maintenance in the Bus Garage. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is supervisory work which involves responsibility for the planning, organizing, and supervising of vehicle and equipment maintenance in the Public Works or Bus Garage. Some personal participation in repair and/or maintenance activities as well as other related work may be required. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Highway Superintendent or Director of Transportation with considerable leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in completing assignments. Direct supervision is exercised over a number of skilled and semi-skilled subordinates. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)
• Plans, organizes, and supervises the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of all types of vehicles and equipment
• Supervises the work of automotive repair workers, welders and other personnel in the department
• Schedules and coordinates repair operations
• Maintains records of repairs and replacements made on all automotive equipment
• Processes accident reports, repair estimates, and insurance claims
• Initiates orders for materials, supplies, and tools
• Maintains time and production records and prepares reports
• May operate a school bus
FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
• Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures, and safety practices relative to automotive and related maintenance work
• Good knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in automotive and related maintenance work
• Ability to understand and prepare specifications for automotive and related equipment
• Ability to plan and supervise the work of groups of subordinates
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college with an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Mechanics or a related field and three years of experience as a skilled automotive mechanic, two years of which shall have been at the supervisory level; OR
(B) Graduation from high school or two (2) year technical automotive school and five years of experience as a skilled automotive mechanic, two of which shall have been at the supervisory level.
