June 21, 2022

Dear Galway Families,

As we wind down the 2021-22 academic year and see the Classes of 2022 (seniors) and 2035 (preK) walk the hallways in their caps and gowns, I would like to take this opportunity to share another “moving on” that will take place on June 30, 2022. Last week, Joseph Henry Elementary School Principal Michelle McDougall announced her decision to retire from the Galway Central School District.

Mrs. McDougall has been a constant supporter of students since she came to Galway in 2012. Our students have grown academically, socially, and emotionally under her guidance, bolstered by some of the programs and curriculum she helped put into place. She helped develop a PreK program that provides our youngest students with a robust educational experience; she was instrumental in coordinating the logistics of teaching and learning through a major, two-year capital improvement project AND a pandemic; and she was mindful of nurturing a positive environment for faculty and staff that was best illustrated by our academic pep rallies, Halloween parades, and more.

Mrs. McDougall will work with the administrative team to ensure a smooth transition, and much of the foundational work for the 2022-23 school year has already been done. The district will announce an interim principal as soon as possible while we undertake a search for Mrs. McDougall’s replacement.

Please join me in congratulating Mrs. McDougall and wishing her a long and happy retirement!

Sincerely,

Brita Donovan, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
