Top Ten Students of the Class of 2023

Galway Central School District is pleased to announce the Top 10 students of the Class of 2023. 

Sara Conti, daughter of Marie and Joseph Conti of Galway, is the valedictorian of the class of 2023. Sara is the head editor of Eagles Media Center (EMC) and Impressions Literary Magazine, president of the Robotics Club, and vice president of Science Club. She served as treasurer of National Honor Society, and as an anchor on Galway TV (GTV). She has played volleyball since eighth grade, and joined the varsity track team her senior year. Sara plays the flute in the Galway High School Band, and has had multiple poems published in various anthologies. She plans to attend Hamilton College to pursue a degree in physics.


Sydney Kress, daughter of Shanon and Erich Kress of Amsterdam, is the salutatorian of the Class of 2023. Sydney dedicated most of her time to academic endeavors throughout her high school career. She began taking several college courses at the end of her junior year through various colleges. In the fall of this past year, she pursued Early College Admission at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, attending full time during her senior year. Sydney has been an avid member of the Senior High Band, participating in Pep Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and exploring solo opportunities through NYSSMA. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. She will be attending Russell Sage College in the fall, majoring in biology with a pre-med concentration in hopes of becoming a specialized surgeon.


Emma Jordan is a three-sport athlete who competed in cross country and track and field for five years, and basketball for two years. She earned WAC All Star each of her five years competing in varsity cross country. Emma also enjoyed dancing with Galway Dance and playing the French horn in Galway’s school band. She was the secretary of the National Honor Society and treasurer of the Science Club her senior year. Emma plans to attend Rochester Institute of Technology and major in electrical engineering, with a focus in clean and renewable energy. She is the daughter of Lauren and Harlan Jordan of Galway. 


Abigail Ehrenberg is a two-sport athlete who competed in varsity volleyball and track and field. She was the president of the National Honor Society and served as the Senior Class historian. She was also a member of Eagles Media Center and Model United Nations. Abbie plans to attend American University in Washington D.C. to study international relations in hopes of working in foreign service and diplomacy. She is the daughter of Jillian and Jeff Ehrenberg of Galway. 


Thomas Villano III, is a four-sport athlete who competed in cross country for two years, track and field for three years, varsity basketball for four years, and soccer for two years. He earned numerous accolades for track and field from the WAC league and sectional championships for the throwing events. He also made an appearance at the state qualifying meet for both throwing events his senior year. Thomas was a member of Class Office, National Honor Society, and the school band. He plans to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in order to major in life science or kinesiology on a pre-med track. He is the son of Patricia and Thomas Villano of Galway. 


Stephanie Martin is a two-sport athlete who competed in track and soccer. She was captain of the varsity soccer team since her sophomore year and was honored as a Section II All-Star two years in a row. She also competed in varsity cross country, softball, and basketball during her High School career. Stephanie is president of Student Senate and Science Club as well as the vice president of Robotics Club and a member of National Honor Society and GTV. She also held officer positions in the Class Officer, GSA and Leo’s Clubs. Next year, Stephanie will attend SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse working towards a degree in environmental resource engineering. She is the daughter of Loretta and Robert Martin of Ballston Spa. 


Joshua Lovelass is a three-sport athlete who competed in golf, basketball, and baseball. He won two golf league championships and was honored as a First Team All-Star four times including First Team All Star for basketball his senior year. His baseball team won two league and one sectional championship, and he was named First Team All Star during his junior and senior years. Joshua was an Academic Scholar all throughout High School. He plans to attend Coastal Carolina University’s Professional Golf Management Program to become a certified teaching professional and earn a business degree. Joshua is the son of Melissa and Kevin Lovelass of Galway.


Sophia Fasolino is a four-year member of the varsity volleyball team that competed in the State Championship three times in her athletic career. She was the president of the DoSomething club, the public relations officer for the Senior Class Office, and a member of National Honor Society. During her senior year, she participated in the New Visions Health Careers Exploration Program.  Sophia will be majoring in biochemistry on a pre-med track at the University of Tampa. She aspires to pursue a career in medicine and be an emergency and trauma surgeon. Sophia is the daughter of Allison and Louis Fasolino of Amsterdam. 


Kerringtyn Davis focused primarily on her academics and clubs throughout high school, finishing four consecutive years as an Academic Scholar. She was president of the GSA for two years as well as a member of Student Senate, anchor on GTV, writer for EMC, and member of National Honor Society. Kerringtyn will attend the College of Saint Rose in the fall to study forensic psychology. She is very excited to continue her education in such a vibrant city. Kerringtyn is the daughter of Dana VanBuren of Ballston Spa, who Kerringtyn says is her #1 supporter. 


Jayden Devellis is a two sport athlete who played volleyball and softball. She was captain of the volleyball team for two years and helped her team reach states both years. She earned many athletic awards including WAC Defensive Player of the Year, WAC First Team All Star for two consecutive years, and All-State Awards for two years for volleyball. In addition to her volleyball achievements, she earned WAC First Team All Star for softball during her senior year. Jayden plans to attend Keuka College to continue her volleyball career and pursue a career in nursing. She is daughter of Jodi Canavally and Joseph DeVellis Jr. of Galway.
